The main premise of the book is that everyone has access to intuitive knowledge and spiritually-based wisdom about what is life-enhancing and life-affirming. Yet, many people lose touch with their inner compass and consequently suffer from feelings of unworthiness and meaninglessness as well as a variety of psychological symptoms, such as depression and anxiety. I contend that growth and healing are most likely to occur when psychological and spiritual practices are combined and that an integration of psychology and spirituality provides enormous potential to heal wounds and to further individual development as well as human evolution.

The Introduction presents the concept of the Real Self and the psychological and spiritual underpinnings of the book. To draw-in readers, I provide various real-life examples of the consequences of losing contact with the Real Self and associated spirituality. I also summarize the content by chapters, address who might profit from reading the book, and punctuate how the message is important to the spiritual and psychological health of readers.
